Final Group Logo

Our final logo has now been produced. It is very simple but clever at the same time. With the block colours everything is very clear and presented well. I prefer this logo due to its simplicity and modern appearance.

Film planning

During the last two weeks my group and i have been brainstorming ideas for our opening scene. During these two weeks we have managed to combine two story boards together and as a group solidate our final idea.
Below is the two original story boards which we have combined and scanned onto a computer. We are now underway in creating the final finshed story board and this will be our priority for the next lesson. With everything really starting to move we have decided that we will begin to film this week and start to get a feel for how everything will work. We have already been to all of our possible locations and are very happy with what we have found. 

Zen opening Anaylse

• Name Tittle fly on from side showing speed and action
• The colours are to block colours contrasting greatly making the words very clear and legible
• The name of the actor comes up as the actor is on the screen

• In this slide we can see a police station due to its reliveance 
• The words are also in Italien giving clues on the setting
• The tittle is in white again on a background of many colours but the white still stands out

ANALYSIS OF THRILLER CODES AND CONVENTIONS

Dont Look Now (Nicholas Roeg,1973)

• Editing: tension and suspense are built up through editing in this thriller opening. The film cuts between shots of a couple quietly working in their sitting room and shots of their beloved daughter who is playing in the garden. When the father cuts his finger, the blood flows across a slide of a Venetian church window. The next thing we see is the child in her red coat drowning in the garden pond. Colour codes make a link between the two events and set up an enigma code.

Godfather Part ii

The Godfather part II is another film i have watched for research on thriller openings.

• What struck me most about this film opening were the music codes: it begins with a line of people walking in silence with slow music untill it is interupted by gunshot.
• Death plagues the opening scene of this film which is another major convention of thriller films. They all contain death. 
• The part that inspired me the most and which we will use in our opening scene is the music. It is important to us that we create music that builds atmosphere and creates tension.

A Clockwork Orange

A Clockwork Oranage has all the contributing factors to make a great thriller. Our group has been inspired by the opening scene. The main character Alex is played by Malcolm Mcdowell is a real insprirtation for our main character in our opening scene. He has all the codes and conventions of a great thriller character. He is very strange and covered with mystery. The opning shot on alex's face and the voice over is used in our film to create a scence of mystery which is a key element of a thriller film.

Danny Boyle's new film 127 Hours

 127 HOURS is the new film from Danny Boyle, the Academy Award winning director of last year’s Best Picture, SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE. 127 HOURS is the true story of mountain climber Aron Ralston’s (James Franco) remarkable adventure to save himself after a fallen boulder crashes on his arm and traps him in an isolated canyon in Utah.

True to form, Trainspotting / Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle sets off at a cracking pace. There are some big themes here, but Boyle isn’t one to hit us over the head with sermonizing. He makes films in the cutting edge style of the times. The digital cameras here allow him to slam between microscopic views – an ant crawling over flesh – to the macro- birds eye view of the canyon.

This has inspired me to use fast moving shots to increase tension. Another technique that i am considering using due to watching this film is how Boyle used a combination micro and macroscopic to focus on different details. These shot can also symbolise isolation (macroscopic) and being crampt (microscopic).

Our group all contributed ideas towards our company's logo and name and this is the final result. Jonny finalised the work on photoshop with the agreed adaptations.

This is my magazine cover which i have created using photoshop, to assist me i used codes and conventions of magazines to make my cover affective.

Wordle to show codes conventions of a thriller

When thinking about what sort of film opening my group and i wanted to create we began to reasearch the codes and conducts of the thriller genre. Instead of showing every thing i found i have decided to create a wordle which sums up some of the main characteristics of a thriller.  Mystery is very prominante in this wordle which gave us some inspiratoin to edit our current story board and add more mystery.
Other words which are very bold are; murdwe, crime, villian, hero and climax all these things will be taken into thought when we create our story board.

My Media World

I have a smart multi media phone. A blackberry curve which I use almost 24/7 for all different things. I find it very useful most of the time but it does have it negative effects, while trying to revise or do homework it can be a large distraction. I use it for, Internet, Facebook, texts, Blackberry messenger, phone calls and music. If I could get an upgrade I would get either an iphone 4g or a new phone, which is under construction called the Mozilla.

To keep in contact with my friends I do use my phone but there are substitutes such as Facebook, which I use a lot. With Facebook I keep in contact with a vast amount of friends, which would be impossible with out this social networking sight. The negative is also that it can be a distraction from more important things and after staring at screen for a couple of hours a day can affect your eyesight. I am not concerned about privacy issues.

To watch films I use a lot of platforms. I regularly buy I film on films on demand from my virgin media subscription. I also watch a lot of films on the Internet if I’m by myself. I occasionally watch films on my Itouch I’m travelling somewhere on a plane for example.  For social occasions I will go to the cinema with friends or if a huge film is out like Harry Potter. I book cinema tickets online to make sure I have seats and for the convenience.

I really enjoy music especially alternative rock, due to this genre preference I listen to XFM radio station. I also downloaded Spotify and have lots of playlists in which I share with my friends on Facebook. I enjoy music concerts and festivals. I attended reading 2010 purchasing my ticket online. I also have an Ipod and download music to it via Itunes.

I own an Xbox 360 which I use daily, I am subscribed to an Xbox live gold membership which allows me to talk to my friends via a headset and play against them in different games. I can also access Facebook, twitter and a variety of moves, music and downloadable games.

I am using the Internet constantly for many different reasons. Research, games, social networks, buying, selling, music and news are just some things which I use the Internet for. I use it on average about 4 hours a weekday and about 10 hours at the weekend. It is the most useful resources and I think most modern school children would be lost without it is defiantly the future for media. My brother aged 12 and attends the same school as I. He does not use the Internet as much as I do but he defiantly uses it a lot. My dad being a broker only uses the Internet for work reasons, he does not use it for recreational purposes. My mum is a teacher and uses the Internet in her classes and rarely used it outside the classroom. If she is using the Internet for recreational purposes it is normally for online shopping especially at Christmas.  Problems with the Internet include reliability, there always seems to be some sort of problem, if it is poor connection or just system failure. Pop-ups and advertisements can be annoying and frustrating. Virus’s is also a major problem, eroding files and losing personal data can be the result of a virus, which I have experienced.
